Roger Ebert reviews “Jerry Maguire” as a heartwarming film with standout performances. – default

“Jerry Maguire” is a heartwarming movie that starts out cynical but quickly becomes a delight to watch. The movie follows Jerry Maguire, a high-powered sports agent who realizes that agents should care more about their clients than just money. After getting fired for his beliefs, Jerry is only accompanied by Dorothy, an accountant he barely knows. As their relationship blossoms, Jerry helps a wide receiver named Rod learn to play from the heart. While the movie has a lot of subplots, the chemistry between Tom Cruise and Renee Zellweger is the highlight. They both deliver earnest performances that remind viewers of the power of true love. The sports scenes are predictable but Cuba Gooding Jr. stands out in his role. Overall, “Jerry Maguire” is a tale of transformation, where two men learn to value something more important than money, and two women always believed in them.
