There’s granite on the moon. No one knows how it got there.

by TM

Geologists have made a surprising discovery on the far side of the moon—a large cache of granite, a rock virtually nonexistent elsewhere in the solar system. Previously, only small grains of granite had been found in lunar samples brought back from the Apollo missions. The presence of this 30-mile-wide granite trove on the moon poses a mystery, as it suggests the rock formed through a geological process not yet understood. NASA plans to explore the region in 2026 with a rover to gather more information. The discovery could provide new insights into the moon’s history and formation.
