Releasing December and January RC · React Native

by TM

Shortly after React Native was introduced, the developers started releasing updates every two weeks in order to help the community adopt new features while maintaining version stability for production use. This release cadence was influenced by the need to stabilize the codebase for Facebook’s production iOS apps. However, as many Facebook apps now ship once per week, especially on Android, the bi-weekly release schedule is no longer beneficial for internal contributors. The community has also expressed difficulty in keeping up with the rapid release rate, with tools like Expo having to skip every other release. As a result, React Native will now be released on a monthly basis. The December 2016 release, v0.40, has been stabilized for the entire previous month and is ready for adoption. Upgrades can be performed with the new “react-native-git-upgrade” command. This change aims to simplify the process of keeping track of changes and adopting new versions of React Native.
