Releasing 0.56 · React Native

by TM

The long-awaited 0.56 version of React Native has been released. The blog post explains the challenges of making breaking changes in React Native and the decision to skip the April and May releases to allow integration and testing of new changes. While the 0.56.0 release is not perfect and there are a few unresolved issues, most developers should have no problem upgrading. The release marks a fundamental building block towards a more stable framework and will lead to an even better July 2018 release. The blog post also highlights some of the major changes in this release, including the upgrade to Babel 7, modernizing Android support with updates to Gradle, Android SDK, Fresco, and OkHttp, and updates to Node, Xcode, React, and Flow. The release notes and upgrading guide are provided for further reference.
