React Native Monthly #6 · React Native

by TM

The React Native monthly meeting is still ongoing and there are plans to discuss specific topics in the future sessions. Devin Abbott and Houssein Djirdeh have released a pre-release of their book “Full Stack React Native” which allows readers to learn React Native by building small apps. Before purchasing the book, readers can try out the apps on https://www.fullstackreact.com/react-native/. Additionally, a first experimental version of reason-react-native-scripts has been released to help users easily try out ReasonML. Expo SDK 24 has been released, which includes new features and improvements such as bundling images in standalone apps, image manipulation API, face detection API, and more. More resources will be allocated to React Navigation starting in January to improve it with React components and primitives. The React Native Windows bridge is being migrated to .NET Standard to make it OS-agnostic. Detox is working on parallelization support for E2E tests and custom flavor builds. DetoxInstruments is working on taking JavaScript backtrace at any given time. React Native Navigation V2 development pace has been increased with more developers working on it full time. Replacing the old JSCore bundled in RN with its newest version improved JS thread performance. The article concludes by mentioning future discussion topics and inviting readers to tweet their suggestions.
