May 19th, 2022 marks the 11th celebration of Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD), and this article highlights the progress made on the accessibility of the React Native Framework. Meta (formerly Facebook) was the first organization to take the GAAD pledge in 2020, committing to make React Native accessible and inspire other organizations to do the same. A thorough review and gap analysis of the framework led to fixing numerous issues and advancing the accessibility of React Native. In 2022, the focus is on prioritizing and addressing the remaining accessibility issues based on their impact on developers and end users. The article also highlights Fabrizio Bertoglio, a contributor who has made significant accessibility fixes to React Native by understanding the difficulties faced by screen reader users.
