React Native 0.72 – Symlink Support, Better Errors, and more · React Native

by TM

React Native 0.72 has been released with several highly requested features, better error handling, and other developer experience improvements. The new features include beta support for symlink, which allows React Native to work seamlessly with monorepo setups and pnpm. Package Exports support is also introduced as a modern alternative to the package.json “main” field, enabling npm packages to define their public API and target React Native. Developers can enable these features by updating their app’s metro.config.js file. In terms of developer experience, invalid style properties will no longer display redboxes, and error readability for Hermes has been improved. The React Native CLI has also been enhanced with reduced duplication and verbose stack traces, as well as the addition of deep links to relevant documentation. Compilation time and JSON parsing in Hermes have been optimized to benefit apps with large object literals and heavy JSON manipulation. The release also includes updates to the New Architecture and a list of breaking changes that developers should be aware of.
