Pokémon Go creator Niantic accused of ‘systemic sexual bias’ in lawsuit

by TM

Former Niantic employee files class-action lawsuit, claiming devaluation of female employees and women of color, unequal pay, and creation of a “boys club.” The employee discovered her male colleague was earning more despite her higher job title and more responsibilities. Niantic executives allegedly showed hostility towards her concerns and association with the employee resources group for women. The company’s Chief Marketing Officer required the removal of references to sexism from a survey conducted by the group. This lawsuit adds to the rising legal actions against gaming companies for mistreatment of female employees. Niantic’s recent layoffs highlight its focus on Pokémon Go after struggling to find success with other games.
