Hubble snaps a seemingly peaceful galaxy. Don’t be fooled.

by TM

Astronomers are studying the aftermath of a supernova explosion in a dwarf galaxy located 184 million light-years away from our solar system. NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope captured an image of the galaxy, UGC 11860, to examine the remnants of the explosion. Supernovas are violent cosmic events that create elements such as carbon and spread metals across interstellar space. The researchers aim to understand the star systems that end with a supernova to better explain the origins of chemical elements on Earth. In addition, scientists are scanning the space around a recent supernova in the Pinwheel Galaxy for signs of alien activity.
