Headless JS, the Keyboard API, & more · React Native

by TM

React Native 0.36 has been released with several new features. One of the highlights is the introduction of Headless JS, which allows running tasks in JavaScript while the app is in the background. This feature can be used for tasks like syncing fresh data, handling push notifications, or playing music. Another useful addition is the Keyboard API, which makes it easier to work with the on-screen keyboard by listening for native keyboard events and reacting to them. React Native now also supports combining two animated values via division, which can be useful in cases where an animated value needs to invert another animated value for calculation. Additionally, a new barStyle value has been added to StatusBar called dark-content, allowing developers to use a dark status bar with white text and icons on both Android and iOS. These are just a few highlights of what’s new in React Native 0.36. For more details, readers can check out the release notes on GitHub.
