Building For React Native · React Native

Three years ago, a GitHub issue was opened to support input accessory view from React Native. After countless ‘+1s’, workarounds, and no concrete changes, an API for accessing the native input accessory view has finally been exposed. The input accessory view is a custom view that can be anchored to the top of the system keyboard when a receiver becomes the first responder. It allows for interactive keyboard dismissal, which is important in messaging apps. There are two common use cases for anchoring a view to the top of the keyboard: creating a keyboard toolbar and sticky text inputs. The first involves providing additional functionality to a text input field, while the second includes having the text input as part of the input accessory view itself. A new API has been designed to cater to these use cases and works well with existing React Native components. This feature will be available in the upcoming v0.55.0 release of React Native.
