Announcing React Native 0.70 · React Native

by TM

React Native has released a new version, 0.70.0, with several significant improvements. One of the highlights is the new unified configuration for Codegen, which allows developers to define Codegen specs for both iOS and Android directly in the package.json file. This provides a more consistent experience for library maintainers. Another major update is the inclusion of Hermes as the default JavaScript engine. The React Native team collaborated with the Hermes team and the community to fine-tune Hermes for better performance and to deliver highly requested features. Additionally, the update introduces full CMake support for Android builds, allowing users to use a CMakeLists.txt file instead of an Android.mk file for native configuration. This change simplifies the update process and reduces the amount of code to maintain. The update also enables autolinking for Android libraries and includes other notable improvements and upgrades.
