Announcing React Native 0.66 · React Native

by TM

The latest release of React Native, v0.66, includes support for Android 12 and iOS 15, as well as various fixes and updates. One of the highlights of this release is the addition of interaction support for child views rendered outside of parent boundaries on Android. This brings React Native on Android in line with web standards. The release also includes support for new Bluetooth permissions in preparation for Android 12, with plans to update the targetSDKVersion to 31 in the next release. For iOS development on Apple Silicon (M1) Mac machines, the release provides several solutions to improve Xcode builds and make them more reliable. Additionally, Hermes 0.9.0 has been included in this release to address bug fixes, memory enhancements, and size improvements. The release also introduces Nightly and “Commitly” releases as part of efforts to improve the release process. Nightly releases are now easier to access and can be used as release candidates. The process for migrating to a React Native nightly release or a Commitly release is provided in the blog post. The release includes 621 commits from 92 contributors.
