Announcing React Native 0.60 · React Native

by TM

The React Native Core team has released version 0.60 after months of hard work from contributors. This release includes significant migrations for Android and iOS platforms, as well as resolving various issues. The blog post highlights the key updates, but readers are encouraged to refer to the changelog for more detailed information. The team has focused on improving accessibility APIs, such as announceForAccessibility, roles, action support, and flags. The start screen has also been updated to create a more friendly and engaging experience for users. Additionally, React Native has migrated to AndroidX, requiring the migration of native code and dependencies. CocoaPods are now part of React Native’s iOS project, and changes have been made to the podspecs to enhance compatibility with Xcode projects. WebView, NetInfo, and Geolocation have been extracted from the React Native repository. Native modules are now autolinked, reducing the need for react-native link. The Upgrade Helper tool has been developed to simplify the upgrade process. Library maintainers should be prepared to update their libraries to support AndroidX.
