All the questions we still have about Threads, Meta’s Twitter killer

by TM

Threads, the text-based Twitter rival by Meta, has gained significant momentum since its launch, attracting over 30 million new sign-ups. However, there are concerns about the platform’s focus on brands and influencers, as the current feed algorithm heavily favors higher profile accounts, making it difficult to find posts from friends. Threads also lacks a non-algorithmic and chronological feed, although Meta has stated that they are working on implementing these features. Additionally, Meta plans to integrate Threads with ActivityPub, the protocol that powers decentralized platforms like Mastodon, but the details of interoperability and content moderation are still unclear. The app also lacks several basic features such as direct messages, a web interface, search and hashtags, and accessibility support. While ads are not currently present, Meta may consider monetization in the future. Overall, the success of Threads may rely on Meta’s ability to address these concerns and introduce new features.
